Rudrakanyas is the ancient tradition of sacred powerful women who dedicate their lives to Paramashiva, the Ultimate. They were respected as they lived an extremely pious, integrated life. When the barbarians invaded India 700 years back, however, they raped the Rudrakanyas and forced them into nude marches and sexual slavery. Then when the colonial forces invaded India 300 years back, they banned the whole tradition of Rudrakanyas by labeling them prostitutes and eliminating the ‘social evil’.
